Sedation Dentistry
If you feel nervous at the dentist, or are anxious about an extensive dental procedure you have coming up, you're not alone.
Sedation dentistry can calm your mind and body so we can address your oral health concerns comfortably.
At Precision Dental Partners in Charlotte, NC, we offer three forms of sedation to help patients achieve a healthier smile.
What is Sedation Dentistry?
/
Sedation dentistry uses medication to relax the body and mind. The sedation we offer at our Charlotte, NC, office in Ballantyne keeps you deeply relaxed but not entirely unconscious throughout your dentistry visit, making it possible to get the care you need in total comfort.
Choose From Three Types of Sedation

Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide is a calming gas inhaled through a mask placed over your nose. Nitrous oxide is the lightest form of sedation we offer. It is fast-acting and starts to take effect shortly after our dentist begins the flow of nitrous oxide. It also wears off very quickly, so you can safely drive yourself home about 15 minutes after the nitrous oxide mask is removed.

Oral Conscious
Oral sedation provides deeper relaxation than nitrous oxide. With oral sedation, you'll be given medication in the form of a pill to calm any dental anxiety. Typically you'll need to take it about an hour before coming to our office to give it time to take effect. You'll need someone to drive you to and from your appointment.

Intravenous
Like our other forms of sedation, intravenous (IV) sedation induces deep relaxation, but not total unconsciousness. It is unique because it can be adjusted at any time to achieve the level of relaxation you need. An anesthesiologist monitors you throughout IV sedation to ensure your safety.
Benefits of Sedation
More Efficient Procedures
Involuntary movements in the dentistry chair can make it difficult to provide the treatment you need. Sedation dentistry calms the body and mind, allowing you to sit comfortably and allowing your dentist to provide efficient care.
Fewer Appointments
If you're undergoing a procedure that involves many steps, we may be able to get more done in fewer appointments with the help of sedation. When the patient is under sedation, the dentist can work longer and more fluidly in one dental appointment, eliminating the need for follow-up visits.
Comfortable Treatment
Sedation dentistry makes dental care a more comfortable experience. Reducing dental anxiety through oral conscious sedation, nitrous oxide, or IV sedation can make you better able to have comfortable dental care in the future, possibly without the aid of sedation.
We Accept Financing
/
Basic dental insurance does not cover sedation. To make your treatments and the accommodations you want affordable, our Charlotte office accepts financing through CareCredit®.
