Are Veneers Worth the Price? Most Patients Say Yes!

Before We Start, Do You Have Any Questions? Frequently Asked Questions for Dental Veneers

We want you to be confident in your decision to undergo veneer treatment. We have answered some of the most frequently asked questions about veneers to help put your mind at ease. Please don't hesitate to contact our Charlotte, NC, practice with additional questions or concerns.

Can You Get Cavities With Veneers?

Yes. While the porcelain restoration is not at risk of decay, the underlying tooth is. Good oral hygiene should be maintained to extend the lifespan of your veneers.

Do You Have to Brush Veneers?

Yes. Veneers should be treated just like your natural teeth. Maintain good oral hygiene by continuing to brush twice daily and floss once daily after placement.

Can You Go Back to Normal Teeth After Veneers?

No. A small portion of your natural tooth's enamel must be removed to place veneers. This means the tooth will always need some type of protective restoration.

Do Veneers Ruin Your Teeth?

No. A small portion of your tooth's enamel is removed, but it does not affect the tooth's structure or your overall oral health. When performed by an experienced dentist, veneers are a safe and effective enhancement.

What Do I Do if a Veneer Becomes Loose?

Contact us. A loose or damaged veneer should be addressed by a dentistry professional as soon as possible. Contact our Ballantyne dentist so he can determine the best next steps.

Is the Veneer Procedure Painful?

No. There should be no pain associated with the veneer procedure, and most patients report little or no discomfort. We do offer sedation for patients at our Charlotte office who would like some extra help relaxing.

Do Veneers Stay White?

Porcelain is incredibly stain-resistant, so with the proper care, you can expect your veneers to stay pearly white for years to come. That said, if you smoke or consume large amounts of staining foods and drinks like coffee and red wine, some discoloration will occur. Any untreated teeth will also continue to stain since enamel is more porous. Using a straw and rinsing your mouth with water (or better yet, brushing your teeth!) after these items can minimize discoloration. Periodic teeth whitening can also ensure your surrounding teeth continue to match your veneers.

A New Smile in Two Appointments The Treatment Timeline of Dental Veneers

While dental veneer treatment is permanent, it is minimally invasive and can be completed in just two visits to our Charlotte, NC, office.
With proper care, your porcelain veneers can last 10 years or longer.

Preparation

During your first veneers appointment at our Charlotte office, Dr. Pirtle will start making room for your new porcelain restorations by removing a portion of your natural tooth's enamel.

Impressions

Once the enamel has been removed, he will take impressions of your teeth. You and Dr. Pirtle will also determine your desired shade and shape of the veneer to send to our lab for fabrication.

Fabrication

Your impressions will be sent to a trusted lab so they can fabricate your new porcelain veneers. You may be fitted with temporary veneers while you wait.

Second Visit

Once your veneers have been created, you will return to our Charlotte, NC, practice for placement.

Check Fit

Dr. Pirtle will first ensure the fit and look of the veneers will create your desired aesthetic. We want to ensure you are completely satisfied with your results.

Placement

Dr. Pirtle will apply a bonding agent to your teeth and secure your new porcelain restorations in place.

Smile

There is no downtime following the procedure. Once you leave our office after your second appointment, you can enjoy a beautiful, functional smile.

I had an excellent experience at this little hidden gem. The service & staff were exceptional. I will definitely go back for my next cleaning and future dental work. The Zoom Whitening was phenomenal. My teeth are the whitest they’ve been since I was born (or at least since I discovered coffee and red wine!).

Are You Hesitant About a Permanent Solution? We Might Recommend Dental Bonding

Dental bonding has several drawbacks in comparison to veneers. It can't achieve the same lifelike appearance, it will not last as long, and unlike porcelain, it is prone to staining. That said, bonding can address the same types of aesthetic concerns and can be a great alternative for a handful of reasons:
  • Reversible: Dental bonding is made of a composite resin. Before applying the material, your dentist will lightly etch the enamel, but the tooth structure will be left intact. Veneer treatment means the treated tooth will always require some type of restoration, but bonding can be removed without any complications.
  • More Affordable: Veneers are a wise investment for the right patient. If you're hesitant about the cost, even with the financing that we accept, consider bonding. It's a much more cost-effective option.
  • Preview Your Results: We have a range of methods to help you preview your results, like temporary veneers. Bonding, though, can be a wonderful way to essentially try on what veneers could do for your appearance and your confidence.
  • Results in One Visit: Bonding material can be applied, molded, cured using a special light, and polished in just one appointment. If you have a big event around the corner and don't have time for veneers, dental bonding could be just what you're looking for.

You Can Combine Treatments To Dramatically Enhance Your Results

Many patients combine veneers with other dentistry treatments to completely transform their smile.

Teeth Whitening

Veneers are color-matched to blend in with your surrounding teeth. If you are unhappy with the color of your natural teeth, our dentist can perform teeth whitening before veneer placement to brighten your whole smile.

Invisalign

Invisalign can address mild to moderate misalignment issues that veneers may not be able to handle alone. Straighten your smile with our clear aligners on their own or before veneer placement to create a beautifully aligned grin.

Smile Makeover

When you have multiple cosmetic flaws that veneers alone cannot address, a smile makeover may be for you. These customized treatment plans can tackle any aesthetic issue, like moderate misalignments, stains, chips, and more.

With our tools, experience, and resources, the possibilities for your smile enhancement are limitless. If you're ready to finally experience a strong, beautiful smile, take the first step. Message our Charlotte office or call us at:
