Dr. Karen Thomspon
Dr. Karen Thompson is a highly skilled restorative dentist with almost 30 years of experience. A proud, two-time graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, she earned her Bachelor's in Chemistry in 1993 and Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1997. While in school, Dr. Thompson had the distinction of serving on the student government all four years, including Student Body President in her 4th year.
After graduating from Dental School, Dr. Thompson served in the United States Air Force, where she was chosen to participate in the highly selective Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency. Through this program, Dr. Thompson achieved proficiency through extra training in all aspects of general dentistry, including oral surgery, prosthodontics, periodontics, and comprehensive dentistry.
After separating with the rank of Major from the Air Force, Dr. Thompson returned to her North Carolina roots and has been serving the Charlotte and Matthews communities since 2004.
Dr. Thompson is known for her gentle and compassionate approach to dentistry and highly values the relationships that she establishes with her patients. She also knows the importance of investing in ongoing continuing education in order to provide her patients with the best and most up to date dental care. She is an active member of the American Dental Association and the nationally recognized Spear Study Club. In addition to investing in her patients, Dr. Thompson invests in her community by providing dental services to the underserved through local and international dental mission trips, including two trips to Kenya.
Dr. Thompson has three college-age children, and in her free time she enjoys watching collegiate sports, traveling with her husband, reading, and spending time outdoors.
